1. HOW AND WHY DID YOU START JIU-JITSU?
I started jiu-jitsu because the coach at a gym wanted to see how a striker like me would fare against a grappler in a friendly MMA sparring match.
After I got taken down, I felt that all the strikes I’ve learned were not applicable anymore hence I became convinced that Jiu-Jitsu should be my next journey in Martial Arts.
2. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT GRACIE JIU-JITSU?
GJJ has a nice syllabus-styled technique learning system which emphasizes on teaching, sharing & learning rather than competing to see who is the best grappler in the gym.
3. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE TECHNIQUE?
Triangle transition from low armlock (guard).
4. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO’S STARTING OUT JIU-JITSU?
Find a gym which emphasizes on self-defense and sharing/teaching rather than to compete from day 1 to see who’s the toughest in class.
5. HOW HAS JIU-JITSU BENEFITED YOU?
It taught me that the concepts of:
a) Technique (Knowledge)
b) Leverage (Efficiency)
c) Timing (patience)
is the recipe for success not just in Jiu-Jitsu but in life as well.
6. FAVOURITE QUOTE/PHILOSOPHY?
You are a medium for God to carry out His work. Life is never about you.
7. FINALLY, I WANT TO SAY?
Thank you to my trainer & good friend Danial Ibrahim for his utmost sincerity and dedication for sharing & teaching me the greatest martial art I’ve ever experienced
– GRACIE JIU JITSU.
